In the new edition of the In the key of Peace, I have focused a good amount of energy on our “Inner child” as being the quintessence of our human experience … especially creatively, and particularly, our first-time or original sensory experience of life. Think about your first experience of eating an apple, or even just drinking water …
Most people would not remember their original experience, and this is because the more it is repeated, the more it becomes normalised. We normalise our more powerful sensory sensations in the interests of maintaining a level of control over our lives. Imagine if every time you bit into, and tasted an apple, you re-experienced the absolute magic of your original apple-eating sensation. How distracting would that be to a motivated adult wanting to focus on other things …
You can see the parallels I am making here, to life being a succession of miracles. They are still there “miracle-ing away,” but we have normalised them, and when we do that, we don’t see them any more. For all intents and purposes they are quite literally not there … life has no miracles!
Or does it??
Our connection with our Inner child returns the possibility of insight … of seeing from within. The miracles are there, and it is meditation that opens this awareness …
So the Miracles and Meditation ‘TOUR’ was about seeing through the normalisation, to re-experiencing a first-time reality. My trip from Auckland to Wellington was over ten hours and 667 kms of being open to my Inner child, and allowing that insight to de-normalise what had been averaged-out in my life … particularly where the tour was concerned.
It was stunning weather and the roads were great! Periwinkle, (my van) seemed to pick up on the positive energy, encouraging me to drive calmly and positively in a southerly direction. Before I began the trip, I had been told that both the Cook Strait ferries were completely booked out. Yet somehow, in the time it took to drive all that way, I got there believing I would be on the next sailing.
All the little miracles on the way, got me down there within five minutes of the terminal opening, and I was first to walk in the door and up to the counter. Without a hint of reticence or doubt, I calmly asked; could I please book a ticket for myself and my vehicle on the next sailing to Picton, to which the reply was, “Certainly sir, can I get your name please” … I felt my heart relax - THAT, was the BIG miracle that all the little ones contributed to . . .
Sometimes we need a bit of time to “de-normalise” what we believe is true, just so as we can get a taste of the original sensation that turned us on to believe that life itself is a miracle … The best way to live it, is to see it …
