How many pathways are there to finding our Inner peace?
There are many pathways to Inner peace. Practicing meditation certainly creates this connection, but then so does spending time in Mother Nature. We can also find our Inner Peace through human relationships and ironically, through a life trauma.
Your Inner peace can be well hidden, or be revealed in part to you. If I told you your Inner peace is already inside you, and has been for your entire life, you may do a quick scan of your body just to see. In the unresolved stress of the moment, you may conclude that you feel no such peace within you. Or, you may do a quick scan of your body and actually come across a feeling, that despite the stresses you carry, you still feel a sense that everything will be ok … and in that feeling, is the essence of your Inner peace.
Just as the stresses we each carry, are experienced differently by each of us, so our road to Inner peace will for each, be in a different route. There is not one cure for all in any circumstance of natural health or Inner peace, the onus is on ourselves to heal and reveal in our own way. Humans are naturally designed to regulate and self-heal.
Meditation is a natural self-healing practice and is an important part of uncovering our Inner Peace. It is also worth remembering that when we become physically aware of our Inner peace, it won’t necessarily be an Earth-shattering event. This is because of its incremental growth — Inner peace in its fullness will generally feel more like a deep sense of contentment than a fanfare of trumpets! That said, if your search for Inner peace has been endured over a prolonged period, in its discovery, you may well find yourself feeling over the moon!
In any case, the benefits we gain from just looking within, will progressively elevate an awareness of our Inner self. Along with that, the objective nature of our Inner peace will feel like a breath of fresh air after a lifetime of seeing life from a surface viewpoint. Through our Inner peace we develop a whole new level of awareness that brings an objective appreciation to the things in life we often take for granted.
So given that the road to Inner peace is different for each of us, here is an overview of my journey …
I began practicing meditation in August of 1984. I was given instructions to meditate daily, but because meditation was unfamiliar and felt a little unreal to me, regularity was difficult to achieve in the beginning. While I understood the theory of repetition becoming a habit after a month or so, it still took me a few months to become a regular daily meditator. But once I did, I felt something quite magical happening within me.
I felt my meditations linking together to become a collective experience. Even though they may have been 24 hours apart, the new meditation seemed to continue from where the last one finished. Rather like waking in the morning to a new day and continuing the life you were living the day before. A daily meditation, became a “meditation life” that felt just as real and tangible as a daily human life. Where meditation felt a little unreal at the beginning of my practice. Now there were times in my meditation life, where my waking life felt unreal!
Through regular meditation, my inner life had grown within me to become a complete time-based awareness. It was much like my physical life in the human world, but with one exception … my inner life had a population of two. There was me as my physical self, and there was my energetic reflection, as my non-physical self. In meditation they seemed to be more separate than they were in my daily thoughts.
Over the following years my meditation life became a creative space for the essential ideas of my Healing Meditation Music. Along with the succession of music compositions, would come insights that would expand the parameters of my waking consciousness. When I sat down to meditate, I never felt alone. I would bring my human life into my meditations, and in the space of my Inner peace, I was able to move through and release screeds of misunderstandings. The process of this led to an increasing sense of fulfilment in my daily life. I was also able to recall instantly, the calming and restarting vibration of my Inner peace - whenever I needed it.
If you allow it, and eventually I did, meditation naturally became a beautiful day by day experience. When I think about it now, what else could it have been, when I found my inner self was really a gentle and joyous soul! In the beginning I tried to build meditation for its benefits. But now I realise that all I needed to do was just to allow it to grow naturally within me. It was still my creation, but the way it grew in my life, was through a level of awareness where mental effort was unnecessary.
It’s not that hard to find a fulfilling sense of enjoyment, sitting quietly and still in a soft music atmosphere, observing your thoughts and visualisations, and allowing your breathing to find its natural harmony. With regularity of practice, you soon become aware of the essential reflection of your true self. An inner being, that in many ways will remind you of how it felt to be “you” in the beginning years of your human journey.
Overall, meditation and Inner peace had a settling effect on my life, but only in areas where settling was needed. My enthusiastic optimism has never really changed, in fact it has become more grounded and functional. The real change has been in the growth of my personal fulfilment. For no particular reason, I just feel more complete in myself. At the same time, I have noticed my survival in the world become less important to me, giving rise to a new level of empathy when it comes to understanding the feelings of others. It wasn’t like I would quietly read people, I found it far more useful to simply allow them the space to be themselves without feeling judged or wrong.
Today in the world, we find ourselves at a crossroads … this way or that? The insights I had gained from meditating reminded me that when we refer to a “world that needs fixing,” we actually CREATE a world that needs fixing. “What we give our attention to, expands” is a new understanding that began in our creative intuition. The outcome of where we are, cannot be changed by confrontation, but by giving our attention to the where we would like to be. “Being the change you want to see in the world” is the good advise of Inner peace, and outer peace. The world will change and grow in alignment with the inner fulfilment of each and every one of us.
“Change” does not have to be traumatic, it can be an effortless flow into a new way of life. We just need to hold our centre and be grateful and appreciative for everything around us. Whether we are practicing meditation or spending time in nature, the wisdom of our intuition and the insight of our Inner peace will surely guide each of us to the life we so desire and deserve.
