Music and conversation at Cafe Nectar.

a memorable afternoon …

Thank you to all those who came along and shared in this special occasion at Cafe Nectar. These days it’s an unusual thing to be performing deeply relaxing music before an animated audience.

But I had enough positive feedback to assure me that the music made for a perfect afternoon. For me, the vibe in the room was quite exceptional, and the music worked well in providing a congenial atmosphere for continuing conversation - and an unexpected birthday celebration.

It made me think about how this music can soften an atmosphere and how this can lead to in-depth conversation that otherwise might not happen. In the relaxing energy of meditative music we can be more open to a deeper level of listening and conversing. Add to that, conversations can head off in directions unintended, where inspiring thoughts and inner truths reveal themselves in memorable moments …

My mind wandered back to the mid 1990s where I was invited to perform the music early in the morning at a series of hi-end business meetings that featured well-known international speakers. I was invited to create a relaxing background atmosphere for people arriving and having their morning coffees and teas. The attendance to these events was by invitation only and the numbers were up to 200 executives - often from competing companies.

At the time I had Compact Discs available of my music and these would often sell out. But the thing that stayed with me, was the noise of the conversation happening while I was playing the music. Many attendees took the time to approach me and compliment what I was doing. The consensus of their feedback would refer to how relaxed they felt at that time of the morning! But in particular, they were aware of how the music would affect their conversations in a positive way.

The presentation at the Cafe Nectar brought all this back to me, and perhaps for a good reason. Deciding to take my music and book on the road through public libraries, is not just about what happens in the foreground of life, but the atmosphere created behind the foreground is equally important, and one we don’t often think about.

The music is ideally used for healing and meditation and arguably, the performance at Nectar cafe was a healing one, providing a relaxing atmosphere for chat, chinwag and smily faces.

Thanks again for those in attendance and there will be more of these coming. Have a wonderful week and thank you for sharing this …

May your peace be within

Much love
