The Wellness Festival was held at the Lotus Heart, vegan vegetarian restaurant in the inner city of Christchurch. The festival itself was predominantly a guest speaker event and over the two days there were more than a dozen guest speakers featured … each presenting an hour of their specialty contribution to human wellness.
On the Friday evening prior the weekend event, all of the speakers were treated to a complimentary dinner to get to know each other and to sort out the logistics of their presentations. It was an absolutely beautiful dinner the food was magnificent. I highly recommend the cuisine and the service at this most delightful restaurant.
On Saturday morning the retail area of the Lotus Heart was a busy hub of healthy happy people, mingling around the extensive range of gifts, clothes, health supplements and musical instruments. The workshop area upstairs was the venue for the speaker presentations and I had the lunchtime spot between 12.15 and 1:15.
My address was largely unplanned, but the focus was on how people were coping with the rapid changes occurring around the planet and whether they were able to maintain their equilibrium with so much distraction …
There was no doubt that the ‘elephant in the room' was real for people. My talk touched on the daily practice of meditation and how this helps us centre ourselves during these times of change. Its not about ignoring the obvious, but making time for ourselves doing the things we love to do, despite our surroundings. Also for practicing meditators, it is important to refrain from taking sides. The middle ground is where meditators can project their peaceful energies into all of the world. Energies that not only keep them happy, but on a collective scale, make a huge difference in bringing peace to the events we are seeing around us.
Between the conversations, I played some live meditative music so that my audience could experience the peace they generate from within, being projected into the world around them. The energy in the room was poignant to say the least. As I finished with a meditative version of Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a wonderful world’ their were many tears of joy being shed … and shared . . .

Finally, Elephants are beautiful peaceful creatures despite their intimidating appearance. For me, ‘the elephant in the room’ would be better phrased as ‘the room in the elephant’ being more a sign of peace and connection with nature.
Thank you for reading and for sharing
May your peace be within
