Seasons of the Sun

From a Winter Solstice down under …

The Solstices and Equinoxes are effectively chronological markers of the four seasons we experience here on Earth. There are two main factors that contribute to the differences between the seasons, the first is the Sun itself, and the second; the “tilt” in the Earth’s rotation.

The tilt of the Earth’s rotation is approximately 23.5 degrees from the perpendicular to its orbital plane around the Sun. This means that at different times of the year, different parts of Earth receive more, or less direct sunlight, thus giving us our four seasons.

This Saturday, June 21 at 2:42 AM (UTC) is the moment of the Summer Solstice in the North and the Winter Solstice in the South. Here in New Zealand (NZDT) the time of the Winter Solstice is at 2:42 PM this Saturday 21 June. To calculate the exact time of the Solstice where you live, you will need to visit this site.

The Solstices mark the points at which the Sun is either at its highest point in the sky, (Summer Solstice) or at its lowest, (Winter Solstice). The Equinoxes (Autumn or Fall) and (Spring), mark the midway points between the Solstices where the Sun is halfway between its lowest and highest points.

At the Summer Solstice, the days are long and the nights are short. At the Winter Solstice, the days are short and the nights are long. At the point of the Autumn and Spring Equinoxes, the days and nights are the same length,

The Moon is also a partner in our Earthly changes, albeit silent in our seasons …

Of course, there are a myriad other transfigurations that take place in nature as a result of the Sun and the Earth’s tilt. Humans themselves can be affected mentally and emotionally by the energy changes of the progressing seasons — particularly if we are sensitive to these energies. Our level of sensitivity is based on our intuitive connection with the Earth, the Sun and the Moon. This connection creates an alignment with the changes occurring in Nature, and is significant in helping maintain our natural sense of wellbeing.

As physical human beings we are a part of Nature on Earth. Within our physicality, we also experience that we have a corporal body — a nonphysical, energetic embodiment that is largely invisible to our sense of sight, but quite palpable to our intuitive feeling nature. Because our energetic body is not easily perceived in a physical way, we tend to separate it from our human body. But in fact, it is not separate; our energy body is an essentail part of being a physical human being.

I believe that everything physical in the Universe has a nonphysical energy component. Through our energetic body, we can make a connection with anything and everything Universal at a sub-physical level. In Truth, we are connected to everything all of the time an essential way, but if in our mind we don’t believe it, we are effectively cutting our mind out of our natural connection. This can compromise our general wellbeing by diminishing our ability to heal ourselves.

Taking the time to be conscious of our Earth connection, creates a harmony and an openness within us. Recognising our part in Nature affirms our wholeness as a human being, and much of this relationship is communicated through our energy body. When we reach out energetically to connect with Nature; Nature reaches back to connect with us.

So I thought for this Solstice celebration we are presently approaching, we would bring our attention to the energy of the SUN, and the Light of our human presence in Nature.

Here in the South, the Winter Solstice begins the upward path of the Sun toward the Spring Equinox. Over this period we can begin to brighten our inner light, bringing clarity and an increasing luminosity to everything in the world to come.

In the North, the Summer Solstice begins the descending path of the Sun toward the Autumn or Fall Equinox. Over this period we can very gradually bring the radiance of our light energy within, bringing creative insight and the inspiration of new adventures to our lives ahead.

Solaris Aglow is my musical tribute to the Sun. It is a soft instrumental for thought and contemplation. The duration of the track is just over five minutes and depicts the path of our Sun on a typical daily journey from dawn to dusk.
