Of course we could go up there in a rocket-ship and we would probably observe a totally different picture to what we might have imagined down here.
But dating back more than 3000 years in human history, there have been people who came up with the heliocentric model of our solar system just from standing on the ground using their imagination … and a little bit of science.
Equally, there has been an ongoing mystery regarding the reasons for our seasons. But if you go back to 1120 BCE, Chinese Astronomers actually worked it out. From standing on the ground, they calculated within a degree, the exact tilt of Earth’s axis relative to its orbital plane, thus accounting for Earth’s seasonal changes.
So why am I talking about this? Because, next week on September 22 at 6:19pm UTC is the Spring and Fall Equinox.
In the Northern Hemisphere, it’s the Fall Equinox, and here in the South, the Spring Equinox. The Equinoxes are points in Earth’s orbit around the sun where the Earth’s axis is neither tilted toward, or away from the sun. The result of this, is that both hemispheres receive roughly the same amount of sunlight, resulting in approximately, equal length days and nights.
So thats the science of the Equinox and if you don’t believe me, you can hop in your rocket-ship and have look for yourself!
But just knowing the science is not everything. There is another side to life that is naturally metaphysical, universal and informational. As conscious beings, we have access to this energy information through our intuition. The primary sensor of our intuition is our heart . . . not the physical heart, but the “heart-centre” of our metaphysical being. The human brain is also involved in the intuitive process as a supplementary sender/receiver.
Feeling connected to the universe is a natural part of our human experience. This feeling of connection is the result of our human consciousness being part of a greater, universal-consciousness. Within universal-consciousness is held all information relating to everything everywhere ad infinitum. As a consciousness, we feed information into universal consciousness and we receive information from universal consciousness.
Having a connection with Universal Consciousness is important, but where our connection begins, is in the connection we have with ourselves. This is our Mind Body connection, and through it we can create a communication between our conscious thoughts and every cell of our body. It happens anyway, but when we become “consciously connected,” we can use the nature of positive thought to influence our health and well-being. We actually become our own self healers.
After our mind body connection, is our connection with Mother Nature. and this is what connects us with Solstices and Equinoxes. When we ‘tune-in’ to Mother Nature, we not only create a connection with Flora and Fauna here on Planet Earth, but by extension, we connect with our Sun, our Solar System, our Milky Way galaxy and the myriad star-filled galaxies that science is beginning to discover right now.
Humans are naturally part of Nature and yet, sometimes we can feel disconnected from Nature and from each other, based on scientific assumptions. Our intuition however, ‘feels’ something quite different. What it feels reaches beyond limiting assumptions and into the possibility of being connected through universal consciousness.
The circumstances that define the Solstices and Equinoxes are reflections of universal consciousness. While the science of what happens, describes their physical manifestation, our intuitive connection with universal consciousness allows us to act in symmetry with their essential meaning and purpose.
When we act as nature, we not only create a symmetry with nature, we also confirm our connection with the creative source of all that is …
The Equinox, such as we will experience next week, reflects equality in sunlight, preparation for the season to come, and the balance and equilibrium of the same energy that creates and sustains the continuing universe.
In both the Fall and Spring Equinoxes, the Sun is a major factor. At the point of the Equinox in the South, the Sun is halfway toward the fulness of the summer-sun. In the North, the Equinox Sun is halfway toward the faded glimmer of the winter-sun. Because of this, the light of the Sun is somewhat subdued for most places bar the Earth’s equator. However the light of the Sun is still equally spread across a large area of the Earth.
As connected beings, we too have a light within us. Our harmony with the Sun light at Equinox, is to have our own light illuminate in a gentle way, yet spread far and wide wherever we go. Depending on our north or south position, the light of our personal energy might be attuned toward the approaching summer or winter.
Balance and equilibrium are possibly the most important qualities to integrate at this time. The rotational axis of the Earth at the Equinox, appears perpendicular with no tilt toward or away from the sun. This represents very clearly the importance of being balanced in our interactions with the world. This is a time where “not too much, not too little, but somewhere between” is the operative. The Equinox is a good time to meditate in stillness, and to explore the balance and equilibrium you will need to go forward into the new season. The contentment we will find in the season of the solstice to come, will be the result of living in the balance of both our physical body and our spiritual presence at the same time.
The Fall Equinox is a time of cleansing and releasing. As the leaves fall in nature, so we let go of the old, taking care to realign our balance and equilibrium as we move toward to a more reflective period of meditation and reinvention.
The Spring Equinox is a time for new ideas and new beginnings. Every day is a new day. Feel the freshness and newness of the morning sun, revitalising every cell in your body and guiding you toward the manifestation and brightness of your true-self in the world.
